Word of the Dream
"God and creativity walk hand in hand."
But when creativity bows down to the idol of materialism, it walks with the shadow of God.
We who are of the House of We bemoan and condemn the manner in which the creators and purveyors of popular music and music videos work to
reinforce sexist and exploitative attitudes towards women while romanticizing thuggery and crass materialism.
We who are of the House of We bemoan and condemn the proliferation of extremely violent, increasingly realistic and oftentimes thematically amoral
video games which have the effect of deadening young minds to the ugliness of human brutality and the horror of human suffering.
We who are of the House of We bemoan and condemn the manner in which the purveyors and creators of popular television shows persuade
members of the public at large to collaborate in their own debasement, to willingly forfeit their dignity and self-respect by placing themselves in one or
another environment of artificially created depravity, dread or exposure. They do this by enticing them with the possibility of financial reward and
fame at any price. We bemoan the fact that "Reality Television," which is neither reality nor television in the normal sense, with its cohort of faux
gladiator contestants has become the Circus Maximus of the American cultural empire.
We who are of the House of We bemoan and condemn the manner in which the purveyors and creators of popular culture in general continue to
poison the society with noxious forms of entertainment that blunt the sensitivities of our young people, who, because they are the most vulnerable
and easily manipulated segment of the population, are by far the most aggressively targeted.
We bemoan and condemn the manner in which the purveyors and creators of popular culture in general contribute to the debasement of the culture
and ultimately of human social interaction as a whole. We completely reject the manipulative fashion in which the afore-mentioned profiteers call
upon the sacred right of free expression, which their cynical behavior only serves to weaken, in order to justify their market-based morality. We believe
that the decision by many in the entertainment industry to pursue a strategy of cultivating the darkest, most primitive aspects of human nature, to
feed the baser appetites of the human soul contributes to the decay of the social fabric and is in accord with the disgraceful tendency of big business
especially to prioritize economic self-interest over the spiritual, psychological and, in the case of products harmful to the environment and to the
human body itself, physical welfare of their community. Furthermore we deeply regret how, by abusing their power to influence, the business people
and artists involved in these practices strengthen the hand of those in the reactionary religious community who hold anti-body attitudes and agendas.
We do not support a Puritan view with regard to the natural self. Demonization and repression are no more acceptable than vulgarization and
exploitation. Both distort the reality of human instinct.
We who are of the House of We call upon all those who, with their artistic talent and skill contribute to the success of the ruthless corporate strategy
cited above, to rediscover their conscience and to remember the higher purpose of their vocation:
Word of the Dream
"It's not the duty of art to pander to cultural appetites and sensibilities.
Art should be on the cutting edge of cultural reform."
