Word of the Dream:
"There are several ways of dealing with the chaos in the human heart, with the chaos of the ‘bull.' You can kill the bull, an approach taken
unfortunately by conventional religion, which should be the champion of life, or you can become the master of the bull, the master of the chaos, and
the thing that masters is love. If you can find the love and acceptance in yourself to master the bull without destroying it, then you can become
If we make the “bull” our friend we sublimate the darkness to the light.
When Paul, the father of the anti-body church declares "It is good for a man to have nothing to do with a woman. But because of the desires of
the flesh, let every man have his wife, and every woman her husband," ... When Maimonides, the great Jewish philosopher advises “Your most
important indication (that you have correctly identified a true prophet) is the rejection and contempt of bodily pleasures, for that is the first
stage of achievement of scholars, how much more so of prophets...”; When the Moslem hadith proclaims "Whomever you find doing the deed
of the People of Lot (sodomy), then kill both the doer and whomever he is doing it to," it becomes clear that for many in the world of religion,
sexual desire (and sometimes even romantic love), are a necessary evil at best. The House of We is a pro-body house and we perceive it as a
necessary good when expressed in the context of a relationship based on love and respect.
Word of the Dream:
"In the Bible God gives man dominion over nature. Isn't this but one example of the way man has always sought to overpower and subdue nature
rather than accept and sublimate it? Wouldn't it be better to work with nature instead of against it?"
“And every man who takes part in the sports has self-control in all things. Now they do it to get a crown which is of this world, but we for an
eternal crown... I give blows to my body, and keep it under control, for fear that, after having given the good news to others, I myself might not
have God's approval.” Corinthians 9:25
One unfortunate trait of religion is its propensity for the extreme. For instance, too much self-control as a result of religious guilt leads to the
repression of natural desire and the repression of natural desire leads to an unhealthy imbalance of body and mind. We who are of the House of
We affirm that religion should be the champion of life, not it's foe…
Word of the Dream:
I dream a dream in which I see the figure of Jesus attempting to pull out the tongue of a woman I think of as his wife. “Jesus” I say, “you always
take a good idea too far, until it becomes a disaster.” Then I am the one attempting to pull something out of my mouth, something which
appears to originate deep in my belly. The object of my effort feels like it is attached to my gut by connecting tissues, and when I finally
succeed in breaking them, I hold in my hand a complex, repulsive lump of material I cannot identify or define.
If one chooses to follow the path of the ascetic, and willingly sacrifices the earthy part of existence and the earthy part of themselves for the
sake of something they perceive as higher, more interesting or more important, let them do so honestly, without belittling those who are on a
different path, without pretending that they are sacrificing Mammon for Jehovah. God is in the world and while, it must be said, many people are
prone to soulless materialism; the worldly life can be lived in a way that is reverent. Similarly, it must be said that the spiritual life can be lived in a
way that demonizes the sacred things of the world.
HOMOSEXUALITY = THE "DEVILS' INTERVAL"?
There are many voices in the faith community and not all of them are voices of contempt for the flesh. Many are voices which celebrate the
presence of God in all things. Nevertheless, a significant number continue to demonize those who follow or are inspired by a different muse and
their influence in the political realm has made the personal issue of one’s sexual preference a voting matter. This is inappropriate and unhealthy
for the society as a whole.
We who are of the House of We acknowledge that because of procreation, male and female were made for each other in a way that male and
male or female and female were not.
